In Brief: Telstra signs $4.5 million deal with ME Bank

Next IP, Next G networks to be rolled out for 800 staff as bank expands physical presence

ME Bank has chosen Telstra to help revamp internal telecommunications and ensure mobile coverage as the bank begins branch expansion into rural areas this year.

The three-year, $4.5 million deal will see Telstra roll out its Next IP network for the bank's internal telecommunications to 800 staff in 20 locations, as well as BlackBerry smartphones for mobile employees and senior executives on the Next G network.

The new services will enable the bank to transfer calls from its contact centre to on-the-road employees for certain queries.

"The network will be critical to improving business efficiencies, increasing employee productivity and providing great customer service as we continue to grow the business,” the bank's Executive Manager IT, Shane Kuret, said in a statement.

The agreement with Telstra comes after ME Bank appointed new chief executive officer, Jamie McPhee, earlier this year, and announced plans to expand its presence in the Australian banking sector.
