Fair Work Australia to get electronic document management

Part of two-phased project for the national workplace relations tribunal

Fair Work Australia is to roll out a national Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) as part of a two-phase project aimed at better managing a range of document-related business needs.

The second phase of the project will see a range of implementation activities including the importation of the FWA’s Business Classification Scheme and Thesaurus, FWA Records Authorities, migration of records and staff training.

The system will allow FWA staff across nine Australian locations to capture, search and retrieve, secure, dispose, preserve, report, and print documents across a number of different formats and applications.

These include Microsoft Office applications, Internet and Intranet applications, imaging and graphic design systems, barcode support systems and digital audio and video systems.

FWA’s ICT environment consists of a Microsoft environment virtualised with VMWare VSphere 4, Windows 2008 R2, Microsoft SQL 2008, 2005, Windows-based PCs, and Oracle software.

The FWA’s network topology is modelled off the hub and spoke approach with the data centre in a Melbourne central hub.
