Telstra has announced a new unlimited Business Mobile PLUS plan aimed at small to medium businesses. The plan will cost $180 a month and will include all standard voice and video calls, as well as all MMS and SMS messages to any Australian mobile or fixed number. Heavy users will also get unlimited MessageBank diversion and retrieval.
Users get 2.5GB included data on the plan, or can instead opt for an "Email Ready Pack" that provides unlimited access to email over Microsoft Exchange or BlackBerry Individual/Enterprise servers. The email packs include 100MB of data.
The unlimited Telstra Business Mobile PLUS plan is available on a 12 month contract with a total cost of $2160 or a 24 month contract with a total cost of $4320. Users who bring their own their mobile handset to the plan on a 24 month contract will receive a $30 discount on the monthly cost, while those who switch from another Australian telco to the plan will receive a $540 credit, or 3 months free.
Fleet users will be able to make national calls for free to mobiles on the same account, and will be able to share unused included credit across Telstra services on the same account.
“This is the first time Telstra has offered an unlimited mobile plan to our business customers," Telstra Business Executive Director Yasmin Dugan said in a statement. "This unlimited plan is ideal for those who make long calls or are heavy users of SMS or MessageBank."
There has generally been positive response for the new plans on forums such as Whirlpool. However, user John Gibson commented on the Telstra blog entry regarding the plan, saying "I am sorry Telstra but as a SME, I cannot afford $180 a month."
A spokesperson for Telstra told Computerworld Australia that the plan was largely targeted at heavy users in the medium end of small to medium businesses, with an average of 200 staff.
At the other end of the spectrum, Telstra also released a new $10 plan for casual users, which does not included any calls or data. Depending on the size of the fleet, calls are charged at a rate of between 21c and 50c per 30 seconds with per second charging, and with an 11c to 20c flagfall. Data plans range from $5 for 5MB of data, to $79 for 9GB.
