Sun ships update to Solaris 8 OS

Sun Microsystems Inc. has released an update to its Solaris 8 Unix operating system, adding several tools designed to simplify the management of large numbers of servers. Announced features include improvements to the platform's Web Start Flash technology.

The most important is the capability to transfer single-server configurations onto other machines. Administrators can replicate a reference server configuration on multiple servers in less time than is currently required, Sun said.
