DG rolls out storage management suite

Data General has announced a package of enterprise-level management products that are compliant with the Common Information Model (CIM) standard.

The DG/Management Suite is designed to give corporate users greater flexibility for managing from within third-party enterprise management frameworks, company officials said.

The new products are a direct response to corporate users increasing demands for integrated solutions that help them better manage their Windows environments.

The suite is made up of NuView's Cluster X; Hewlett-Packard's ManageX for diagnosing problems; DG's NT/Alert for fault-tolerant capabilities; Navisphere storage management software; and the M3W Server Manager for configuring and monitoring SMP blocks within DG's Unix and NT-based systems. Data General is also throwing in its DG/Knowledge Tool and ExpressStart, officials said.

ClusterX is software that manages Microsoft's Cluster Server and allows administrators to more quickly install, configure, and diagnose problems with clustered systems, officials said. Another program included, HP's ManageX, introduces ManageX Intelligence Policies program for Microsoft's Terminal Server Extensions that monitor configurations and helps administrators side step resource bottlenecks.

The package contains DG/Manage Console, an integrated Windows NT-based management console that covers the span of the entire DG/Management Suite set, company officials said. Also included in the package are SQL Server 7.0 Extensions that offer support for monitoring Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 in both stand-alone and clustered environments.

Most of these tools will be pre-installed on DG's Aviion servers and Clariion storage sub-systems. Company officials said that pricing details will be available sometime within the next two months.
