Friday IT Funnies - Disconnecting from Web 2.0

A look at the lighter side of tech life

Are you tired of the doldrums of your virtual life? Over caring about where some person you met once at a networking function ate lunch today? Do you need to vent in more than 140 characters?

Well, welcome the Web 2.0 Suicide Machine where you can have your MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles disappear in less than an hour, once you enter your log-in details for each service.

The website claims to have already euthanized around 1900 Web 2.0 profiles, which although a minuscule amount when you consider the millions of people worldwide who use social networking led Facebook to block the service’s access and issue it with a cease and desist notice .

It is unclear whether MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn will follow suit.

Seppukoo, named after the traditional Japanese method of committing suicide, is another site which offers to disconnect your virtual life.

However, Sophos security guru, Graham Cluley, warned against giving your passwords to a third-party and said it’s better to do the deed yourself.
