Roswel looks at security with SteelEye

Furthering its bid to become a security specialist, IT consultancy group, Roswel, has picked up the A/NZ distribution of LifeKeeper software.

The product, developed by US company, SteelEye, offers organisations utilising a Linux environment security features such as data protection, high availability clustering and wide-area disaster recovery.

Roswel managing director, Paul Wellens, said the product would offer cross-selling opportunities into the company's existing customer base as well as new, greenfield business.

"Our Barracuda range of spam firewalls is very closely tied to ISPs and one of the biggest markets for this product is also ISPs," he said.

"ISPs are probably the biggest user of Linux and the ability to form fail over systems inside these providers is one of the bigger attractions of the product.

There are not a lot of businesses or government departments which have reached the stage where they need fail over systems, but they are getting there.

"One of our major pushes will also be toward IBM and its resellers as it is their preferred software clustering solution."

Wellens said the decision to take on the product was prompted by the enthusiasm of its UK-based support manager, Andy Fry, to increase its scope internationally.

Fry would be working as a dedicated channel resource for the product providing pre-sales, sales and general technical support, he said.

The decision to go with the Linux-based version of the product recognised that opportunities there were greater than in current Windows-based environments, Wellens said.

In keeping with the company's plans to develop its channel, he said Roswel was looking at further expanding its portfolio of products. In particular, it would look to develop its resources for resellers.

"We now have one sales person dedicated to the channel full-time and another part-time and we have also revamped our website," Wellens said. "We will be pushing things a lot harder in the coming weeks."

As volumes increased Roswel would also look at a web portal for online sales, he said.
