Television New Zealand Ltd. (TVNZ) is upgrading its teletext system so that viewers will be able to post data on-screen from their PCs.
Simon Aimer, general manager of TVNZ's nzoom new media arm, says the upgrade will come at the end of the month and then it's a matter of looking for potential users. He suggests educators and those wanting to reach farmers with information such as milking and pricing schedules will be such users.
Aimer says 1.2 million householders receive the service, which is sent in otherwise unused lines in the television picture and offered free of charge. By April those wanting to put text up on teletext will only need to have a PC connected to the Internet, rather than a dedicated terminal.
