Massachusetts-based networking equipment start-up Sitara Networks has appointed John Hennessey as regional director of carriers and service providers.
The former director of 3Com Asia Pacific's sales and business development for commercial and consumer sales, Hennessey, based in Brisbane, will develop and execute Sitara's regional sales and marketing strategy in the telecommunications, Internet and ASP sectors. He will work closely with service providers to develop strategies focused on differentiation and value-added service using the company's quality of service (QoS) line.
Sitara's QoS products include boxes that are designed to improve the performance and cost efficiency of applications delivered over IP (Internet protocol) networks like the Internet, company officials said.
Hennessey is a 15-year veteran of the IT industry and has also held positions with Cray Communications, Ascom Timeplex, Case Communications and Telecom New Zealand.
Since forming two years ago, Sitara has garnered $US39 million in venture capital funding. Its shareholders and investors include America Online (AOL), Intel and Sumimoto.
The company is also considering an IPO towards the end of the year.
