SAN FRANCISCO – October 13, 2009 – Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT infrastructure performance company for networks, applications and storage, today announced that Gartner has identified Riverbed® in its recent September 2009 report, "Market Share: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide 2Q09", as the WOC (WAN optimization controller) Advanced Platform (AP) worldwide market share leader for 2Q 2009 based on revenue. According to Gartner’s market share report, Riverbed increased its revenue share by 1.6 percentage points to 32.5%. This positions Riverbed with 9.4% more market share than the competition.

Riverbed WAN optimization solutions enable organizations of all sizes to overcome a wide range of IT infrastructure performance bottlenecks, including poor application performance, slow database backups and insufficient bandwidth at remote sites. By speeding applications between data centers, remote offices and mobile workers in some cases by up to 100 times, Riverbed Steelhead® appliances eliminate the performance barrier for those looking to adopt a cloud-oriented IT delivery model.

“Enterprises are embarking on strategic IT initiatives to improve overall IT infrastructure performance, including IT centralization, virtualization and data center consolidation. WAN optimization technologies are proving to be a core component to ensure cost avoidance with each of these private cloud initiatives,” said Eric Wolford, senior vice president of business development and marketing at Riverbed. “Customers are demanding the ability to design IT the way it best serves their business, using cloud services, private data centers, distributed IT – or any combination of them – while delivering a high-performance and less costly IT infrastructure to their users. As the market matures, we intend to continue to align our product and distribution strategies to support growing global organizations, no matter what the IT delivery model.”

In a separate report published by Gartner, Riverbed was positioned in the leaders quadrant in the “Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controller (WOC), 2009” published in June 2009 and authored by Andy Rolfe, Joe Skorupa and Severine Real.
“Over 6,500 organizations depend on Riverbed to optimize their IT infrastructure, allowing them to consolidate, virtualize and accelerate their data and applications without sacrificing performance,” continued Wolford. “Our ability to align technology innovation with customer requirements has been key to our continued market share and product leadership.”.
