The number of Internet enabled terminals (IET) using wireless application protocol (WAP) is set to rise, according to Nokia. Nigel Litchfield, senior VP for Nokia Mobile Phones, Asia Pacific said there were 60 million IETs in 2000 and access through WAP accounted for two-thirds of these. "By 2001, we expect 200 million Internet enabled terminals with 85 per cent accessed via WAP. Interest and demand for convergence of mobile and the Internet is growing dramatically." Litchfield said services offering personalisation would be the key driver of the growth in convergence.
