Telstra goes International

Telstra has announced the formation of Telstra International to manage its Asia Pacific interests and direct its offshore growth strategy.

Telstra CEO, Dr Ziggy Switkowski said the head office for the new business group will be in Hong Kong, due to its proximity to China, and will be headed by Telstra OnAir group managing director, Dick Simpson.

Former CEO and managing director for IBM Australia and New Zealand, David Thodey will fill Simpson's former position and is expected to take up his position in late April.

Telstra International will incorporate ventures in Vietnam, India, Singapore, New Zealand, Japan and Sri Lanka, as well as the joint ventures with Pacific Century CyberWorks.

"Telstra International is the obvious next step in developing our growth opportunities which will come from wireless, data and Internet in the growing economies of the Asia-Pacific region."
