Though the business-to-business marketplace shakeout continues, it hasn't stopped America Online (AOL) from stepping into the fray.
AOL and PurchasePro Wednesday announced 10 new business-to-business agreements with companies and a deal to jointly develop the Netscape Netbusiness Marketplace.
The Netbusiness Marketplace is a global network consisting of hundreds of communities and marketplaces that would allow small, midsize and large companies to buy, sell and interact online, the companies said in a statement yesterday.
Hewlett-Packard, Homestore.com and Spherion are among the 10 companies that have licensed PurchasePro's B2B online exchange software to build private marketplaces that would link to Netbusiness Marketplace, AOL and PurchasePro said. The marketplace also will be connected to PurchasePro's network of private marketplaces, which consists of more than 140,000 businesses.
AOL and PurchasePro will team up to offer sales and marketing and product development operation to support the marketplace.
