Canberra's information technology industry has reported a strong vote of confidence in the future with just under half saying they will hire staff within the next three months.
According to a survey of 142 private IT firms in Canberra, the industry will experience employment growth of around 7.9 per cent in the next quarter.
The report said the majority of new jobs will be in programming (39 per cent of new positions), followed by IT sales (26.8 per cent), support (23 per cent) and systems and network administration (11 per cent).
The survey, which was conducted by local firm FrontierIT, also found 68.3 per cent of firms had employed extra staff in the preceding quarter and 41.5 per cent of firms said they will hire extra IT staff in the next three months.
80 per cent of firms surveyed described their outlook as "good" or "average".
