Computer Associates International Inc. last week released the latest version of its Unicenter TNG Asset Management Option with added support for wireless and mobile devices from Microsoft and Palm. Version 3.1 of the software discovers networked devices and reports inventory to network professionals. It is installed on a server. When users log on, an agent is sent to each device, where it assesses the configuration and applications on that PC or handheld. If anything varies from rules set by the net manager, the agents reconfigure the device or desktop to predefined standards. The release supports Linux, mobile Windows devices such as the Pocket PC and the Palm operating system. Version 3.1, available now, starts at US$2,500.
