Cisco licenses Riversoft technology

RiverSoft Inc. picked up a weighty endorsement of its fault management technology when Cisco Systems Inc. agreed to license the company's Network Management Operating System for use in upcoming CiscoWorks products.

Cisco has yet to announce its plans for the technology, but RiverSoft officials say its NMOS will be included in a controlled release of CiscoWorks mobile wireless products at the end of March, with general availability of the products scheduled for June.

The products slated to incorporate the NMOS technology are next generation mobile wireless devices for 2.5G and 3G mobile wireless networks. RiverSoft says its Fault Manager technology will work within the Cisco products to prevent and speed the resolution of network problems.

This is the third significant license agreement for RiverSoft in recent months. In November 2000, Hewlett-Packard licensed the NMOS technology to add Layer 2 and Layer 3 discovery and topology capabilities to its OpenView net management platform. And Intel Corp. included NMOS technology in its NetStructure Management Appliances in September 2000.
