Informatica Delivers Integration with Hitachi Content Archive Platform

Leading Data Archiving and Storage Solutions Integrated to Help Customers Cost Effectively Comply with Increasingly Stringent Data Retention Regulations
 • 07 May, 2009 14:34

Informatica, the leading independent provider of data integration software and services, announced today that its Data Archive solution, recently acquired through the purchase of Applimation, has been certified for use with the Hitachi Content Archive Platform. Through this integration Informatica and Hitachi provide customers with a cost-effective way to archive, store, and retrieve business critical information.

“At a time when data matters more than ever before, companies are struggling with shrinking IT budgets,” said Adam Wilson, general manager, ILM, Informatica. “Growing transaction volumes coupled with the increased requirements for record retention, have lead to escalating hardware, database, and packaged application spend. Now more than ever, organisations are turning to data archiving to help them align the business value of information with the most appropriate and cost-effective IT infrastructure to manage it.”

Informatica Data Archive offers a broad product portfolio for customers to cost-effectively manage the data lifecycle from data archiving to application retirement. The product incorporates the most complete set of accelerators to automate the archiving of packaged applications. This out-of-the-box support covers hundreds of modules across applications like SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft and Siebel. The product also supports custom applications developed using most major RDBMS and legacy mainframe systems.

The Hitachi Content Archive Platform establishes an “active archive” environment - a single online repository that enables preservation, search and retrieval across numerous content types including structured and unstructured data. Based on a unique SAN-enabled architecture, known as SAN Attached Array of Independent Nodes, the Content Archive Platform fully leverages Hitachi storage and archive software capabilities for high availability, performance and multi-petabyte scalability.

Together, Informatica and Hitachi lower application TCO by cost effectively archiving historical data and ensure ongoing compliance through comprehensive e-discovery capabilities. The integrated solution provides:
- Out-of-the-box accelerators that automate set-up and archiving of structured data
- Support for SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Siebel, mainframe and custom applications
- Application independent retrieval of archived information
- Consolidation of structured and unstructured information in a single, highly scalable active archive
- Retention polices, security, and data immutability

“As more businesses experience continued enterprise data growth, it is vitally important that they are able to address not only storage concerns, but also have application independent access to the wide range of original structured and unstructured data for the purpose of e-discovery and risk mitigation,” said Marc Trimuschat, senior director, Global Business Development and Alliances, Hitachi Data Systems. “Integrating Informatica Data Archive with Hitachi Content Archive Platform provides archive data optimisation for storage and maximises the available space on the archiving storage system. The two together enable a company to manage their application infrastructure resources for a better ROI.”
