The new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art capabilities designed to develop and deliver high-value-added services and solutions to customers in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The launch event was used to showcase new Australian capabilities in document capture, distribution and workflow – along with its comprehensive range of production hardware and services – to an audience of government officials, VIP Ricoh customers and the media.

“The opening of the first PIC in Australia sends a clear signal that Australia is capable of becoming a leader in increasing the level of business innovation,” said Les Richardson, Managing Director of Ricoh Australia.

Ricoh, a major international supplier of office equipment, is moving rapidly to a business model that involves providing software, applications development, consulting services and custom integrated solutions that enhance and extend the functionality of Ricoh manufactured products.

“Through this strategic investment, we can partner with regional customers to collaborate on the development and testing of next-generation output management solutions. Through this process we can provide a competitive advantage as well as reduced costs for our clients,” added Richardson.

Ricoh has invested upwards of A$3 million to establish the regional PIC. Over the next three years, the company expects total investment to climb to approximately A$6 million.

“Through our global network of PICs, we will be creating centres of excellence in imaging processing and digital technology that are located in key geographies. As a result, Ricoh’s global market can be served, supported and further developed by highly skilled, specialist staff,” Richardson stated.

Long recognised as the leader of office equipment with the top market share in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific region, Ricoh has taken bold moves to strengthen their position in the printing sector. Since 2004, it has made strategic acquisitions of industry giants including Hitachi Printing Solutions and IBM’s Printing System Division.
