• 05 May, 2004 15:37

Vodafone Australia today announced another aggressive push on the mobile data market, with the launch of the tri-band BlackBerry 7230 Wireless Handheld™, complementing the globally award winning, Vodafone Mobile Connect and Vodafone live!. All three products are central to Vodafone’s commitment to making mobile data communications a reliable, simple and affordable choice for all Australians.

Thanks to Vodafone’s global scale and scope, the BlackBerry 7230 and Vodafone Mobile Connect business data products are competitively priced and supported by Vodafone’s global GPRS network, which enables mobile customers to stay connected through GPRS roaming on a trusted network when travelling in Australia, or in 13 countries around the world.

BlackBerry® is a leading wireless communications platform for mobile professionals. The BlackBerry 7230™ from Vodafone will be available from 1st June 2004 at a price of $799 incl GST and delivers phone, email, SMS, internet browser and organiser functions in a single, handheld mobile device.

The push-based BlackBerry architecture means email is delivered directly to the handheld device and customers receive emails and calendar updates automatically, without the need for a dial up or connection to broadband. They can also read and forward email attachments from their BlackBerry handheld, including Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.

The BlackBerry announcement coincides with the launch of Version 3 of Vodafone Mobile Connect, a mobile data card with a Vodafone-branded user interface, which provides mobile customers with secure GPRS access through their laptop, to internet, email, company networks and business applications.

Winner of the Award for ‘Best Mobile Application for the Corporate Market’ at the 2004 GSM Association Awards in Cannes, the new version of Vodafone Mobile Connect is available at a reduced price of $399 incl GST and includes an improved interface, which will support future technology, including wireless LAN and 3G.

Vodafone is committed to delivering wireless data solutions to the mobile business market, which according to research group IDC was valued at almost $4.9 billion in 2003.

Chantal Walker, General Manager, Business Markets, Vodafone Australia said: “The opportunity is huge. The mobile services sector is forecast to grow around 10% annually between now and 2007. Businesses are now being charged to get information to the people, not just to the desktop and as we move towards 3G, data is a key element for future growth in mobile.”

“Utilising our global scale and expertise we have the unique benefit of being able to partner with leading organisations around the world, who help us to bring our products to life beyond their standard functionality. With experience in a number of global markets, we have a real insight into what customers want and how we can deliver the very best solution and the very best price.”

Chantal continues, “Vodafone is serious about leading the world in mobile data solutions and driving down the cost of being mobile for the good of our customers. These products are just the start.”
