Melbourne - 20 March 2009 – Sterling Commerce, an AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) company, today announced that Gentran Integration Suite has now been certified by GS1 Australia, a global supply chain standards organisation, for interoperability with suppliers and manufacturers using GS1net. GS1net is a supply chain data synchronisation tool which enables trading partners to accurately and automatically exchange product and pricing data.

GS1 Australia is a neutral, not-for-profit organisation and the local affiliate and Member Organisation of GS1, a leading global organisation dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards to supply chains. Synchronisation of item and pricing product information via GS1net is increasingly being implemented by Australian and New Zealand retail and healthcare organisations who trade with thousands of suppliers and require consistent product and pricing information to improve the efficiency of their global supply chains and reduce costs. A total of 108 member organisations in 155 countries are authorised to administer the GS1 System of standards, the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world.

“As one of just a few locally-based organisations to gain GS1net certification in the Australasia data pool for grocery, liquor and health, we look forward to continuing to deliver optimal supply chain solutions which boost efficiency, remove unnecessary costs and result in greater customer satisfaction,” said Michael Vulcan, Managing Director, Australia/New Zealand, Sterling Commerce. “This certification is further validation of our commitment to take the risk out of our customers’ software deployment decisions.”

Products that have been granted GS1net Certified status have proven that they have the capability to support the loading and maintenance of the GS1net data set. Suppliers electronically upload product data to GS1net which is published in a standardised format for the buyer to electronically download into their own merchandising or purchasing system. This results in significant supply chain efficiencies and trading cycle accuracy by removing cost from the order management process and eliminating manual intervention to correct incompatible data errors. GS1net also ensures ongoing data integrity through a verification layer featuring an extra set of validation rules.

John Hearn, General Manager – GS1 Australia Services Group at GS1 Australia said, “Sterling Commerce is a well-known and respected organisation in the B2B eCommerce space. We are very pleased to have completed the GS1net certification programme with them. We look forward to assisting Sterling Commerce and their clients to successfully synchronise product and pricing data with retail and healthcare trading partners.”

Gentran Integration Suite provides a standards-based integration platform that allows organisations to cost-effectively create and manage flexible business processes spanning internal and external organisational boundaries. It is one of the industry’s most widely-used and trusted electronic data interchange (EDI) and data translation solutions that proves itself daily in millions of business transactions for B2B needs. It can help organisations reduce operating costs, eliminate mainframe dependence, improve flexibility to meet individual customer communication requirements, on-board new partners and documents faster, and improve customer satisfaction through increased processing reliability.

“Sterling Commerce designs its solutions to help eliminate barriers to effective business collaboration. The GS1net certification reinforces our market leadership position as a global provider of integration solutions and is one more step in our long history and our local strategy to satisfy standards requirements for our regional customers that enable their ongoing success,” added Vulcan.
