Novell on Wednesday announced the appointment of Dr Sen Ming Chang as its new managing director for Asia.
Chang joins Novell after 17 years with IBM where he led the company's Unix and Linux strategy in greater China.
His initial focus will be on growing Novell's business in China, followed closely by the rest of Asia, with particular emphasis on Linux and identity-based solutions business.
Novell Asia Pacific president Rhonda O'Donnell welcomed an executive of Chang's calibre to the company claiming he will bring unparalleled knowledge of the Asian market to Novell.
O'Donnell said this will allow Novell to capitalize on the rapidly developing Chinese technology industry.
She said Chang has longstanding regional relationships across all industries, especially in telecommunications, banking and the public sectors.
"I am certain that the experience and knowledge he brings will be invaluable and help our entire Asian team to deliver strong business results now and into the future," O'Donnell said.
Although Chang will be based in Beijing, O'Donnell said he will be a key contributor to Novell's Asia Pacific Senior Leadership Team.
