SYDNEY, Australia – 2 February 2009 - Verizon Business has been recognised for its leadership in the Australian managed security services market by Frost & Sullivan Australia. The company has received the 2008 Australia Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award for Managed Security Services, one of the analyst firm’s annual Best Practice Awards.

The award acknowledges Verizon Business’ leadership in identifying the growing trend towards security-as-a-service, as well as meeting increasing customer requirements for compliance and privacy through Verizon’s security services -- including content security, firewall, authentication as well as intrusion detection and prevention systems.

According to Andrew Milroy, Industry Director, Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific, “Verizon Business has continued to lead the managed security services market in Australia through innovative offerings that reflect the shift to cloud computing. Organisational computing resources are increasingly located outside traditional organisational perimeters which can increase security risks. Verizon has developed offerings which can ensure that computing activity that takes place in the cloud remains secure.”

Award participants are judged according to their market performance in 2007 based on criteria which include market leadership; year-on-year growth rate; market performance; solutions capability and market penetration across various technologies.

John Karabin, regional vice president for Verizon Business security solutions, Asia Pacific said: “The extended enterprise – a business model where organisations open their business data to customers, suppliers, partners and vendors – creates new security challenges. Perhaps most significant of these is how to accurately assess and manage business risk in this borderless environment, and how to protect data as it travels in and out of the enterprise. Verizon Business has aligned its security offerings to meet the needs of the extended enterprise. We have capabilities to secure data and infrastructure, as well as to address the governance, risk and compliance issues that an extended enterprise faces. This industry recognition is an additional accolade for our Security Solutions in the Australian market.”

The Frost & Sullivan Australia Best Practices Awards are presented annually to recognize outstanding performance by companies in the Australian Information & Communications Technology (ICT) industry. The former Cybertrust, now Verizon Business Security Solutions, was a previous recipient of the award in both 2005 and 2006.
