Sun Microsystems Inc. on Tuesday announced its Sun ONE (Open Net Environment) Application Services Reference Architecture, which features a recommended hardware-software combination to address the complexity, time constraints, and other issues in deploying Web services applications.
The architecture features pre-designed, deployed, and tested solutions for Web services based on Sun ONE and Sun Fire servers. No new products are being announced as part of the initiative, which features the Sun ONE Application Server and Sun storage systems also.
"It's basically a tested solution using Sun ONE software and Sun hardware, which includes server and storage. It's an end-to-end solution to help customers speed their deployment of Web services," said Fadi Azzhari, Sun group marketing manager for enterprise systems products, in Menlo Park, Calif.
Sun's reference platform is intended to minimize the integration time needed to enable customers to set up Web services infrastructures, Azzhari said.
Sun ONE Reference Architectures can be configured on Sun systems prior to shipping through the Sun Customer Ready Systems Program, according to Sun.
