Adding to the growing number of bundled, mixed-vendor storage software products, Compaq Comptuer last week announced that CommVault Systems's Galaxy backup and recovery software is available with Compaq's SANworks storage software suites.
Compaq will offer four pre-tested, pre-configured SANworks storage software suites with the Galaxy technology integrated in them, according to representatives for the Houston-based company.
The different flavors of the SANworks/Galaxy storage management software will cover storage deployments ranging from SANs to direct attached storage environments. Versions will include Single Server, for standalone servers or tape drives; a Network Edition, for distributed storage devices; and two SAN editions for both entry-level and enterprise-level SANs.
All versions of the integrated storage software are available for both Unix and Windows NT environments.
Integrating the galaxy backup and recovery software with SANworks means customers will be able to administer and manage storage backup routines through the same interface as other SANworks software tools, according to Compaq.
For Commvault, in Oceanport, N.J., the bundling deal means increased access to Compaq's storage customer install base.
For Compaq, Galaxy technology brings a comprehensive backup and recovery tool to Compaq's storage software arsenal.
