SNIA ANZ Announces Election Results for Board of Directors

<p>Sydney, Australia – November 25, 2003 – The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) ANZ, completed its elections for the Board of Directors at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday November, 21, 2003 and today officially announced the implementation of the new Board along with the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.</p>
<p>The newly elected Board is as follows:
- Mark Heers, EMC, Chairman
- Andrew Manners, HP, Vice Chairman
- Andrew Antal, Computer Associates, Secretary
- Peter Glover, Imation, Treasurer
- Graham Schultz, Brocade, Member
- Ross Harper, HDS, Member
- Garry Barker, IBM, Member
- Chris Pearson, Sun, Member
- Narelle Wilson, VERITAS, Member</p>
<p>The new Chairman, Mark Heers, will head the Board for the next twelve months, shaping future policy and development for the SNIA ANZ.</p>
<p>Mark Heers, Chairman, SNIA ANZ, commented: "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity of chairing the SNIA ANZ to accelerate the growth of storage networking in the region. Our success, and that of the storage industry, depends on this establishment of best practices, industry standards and education programs that span all vendors’ products. I am fortunate to be working with a fantastic team and have no doubt that the new Board will be successful in delivering on the many challenges ahead."</p>
<p>The newly elected Vice Chairman is Andrew Manners. Both Heers and Manners played vital roles in the set up of the SNIA ANZ, both being founding members and holding positions on the Interim Board. Mark Heers brings over 20 years of experience in the IT industry to his new role. Vice Chairman, Andrew Manners, brings with him over 10 years specific storage industry experience.</p>
<p>The new Secretary, Andrew Antal and Treasurer, Peter Glover, were also both heavily involved in the set up of the local affiliate.</p>

<p>The SNIA ANZ official launch event on the morning of the 4th December will be the first occasion to meet and hear from the new Board of directors. Following presentations from Sheila Childs, SNIA Chairman, Mark Heers, SNIA ANZ Chairman and Mark Carmichael of Ernst &amp; Young, the event will conclude with a Q&amp;A session providing guests with the opportunity to pose questions to the panel made up of the nine directors. <p>BIOGRAPHIES</p>
<p>Mark Heers, Chairman, SNIA ANZ</p>
<p>Mark Heers has been involved in the set up of SNIA ANZ from the very beginning and served as Chairman on the Interim Board. He has over 20 years of experience in the IT industry, predominantly in Australia and New Zealand And has spent a considerable time involved on large, complex computing installations with focuses on storage, information security, transaction / database processing and capacity planning. Mark is currently National Product Manager (ANZ) at EMC.</p>
<p>Previous to EMC, Mark was product marketing manager for large scale server and storage systems for two years for Fujitsu Australia. In the previous seven years he held server and storage product marketing, sales, management and systems engineering roles for Amdahl. Before joining Amdahl, Mark spent two and a half years working for IBM UK in a major new development project. He started with the federal government holding a number of technical roles in systems programming, storage and capacity management. Mark has a first class honours degree in computer science from University of Queensland.</p>
<p>Andrew Manners, Vice Chairman, SNIA ANZ</p>
<p>Andrew Manners has participated on the SNIA steering committee since July, 2002 and held the position of Vice Chairman on the Interim Board.
Andrew is the Director of HP’s Network Storage Solutions (NSS) practice, which sits within the Enterprise Systems Group. He is responsible for the ongoing development of HP’s storage capabilities and for leading a national team rolling out storage strategies to customers throughout the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Andrew joined the enterprise team in August 2000, bringing with him more than 10 years of experience in various sales and marketing roles within the Storage Industry.
Andrew Antal, Secretary, SNIA ANZ
Andrew’s career in IT spans 15 years having worked for multinational companies such as IBM, Autodesk, Seagate Software, VERITAS Software and currently Computer Associates. In the last seven years Andrew has focused primarily on the storage space working in a number of marketing and technical roles.</p>
<p>In Andrew’s current role as Snr Product Manager, he oversees business development and marketing of the BrightStor product range within Australia and New Zealand.</p>
<p>Prior to this role he was the Marketing Director for VERITAS Software based in Mountain View, Calif where he was responsible for global marketing of the Foundation and SAN product range.</p>
<p>Andrew also holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Technology Sydney and a MBA from the University of New England.</p>
<p>Peter Glover, Treasurer, SNIA ANZ</p>
<p>Peter has been heavily involved in the set up of the SNIA ANZ and was a Founding Director, holding the position of Treasurer on the Interim Board.</p>
<p>Peter is currently Finance Director at Imation ANZ where he also acts as principal financial advisor to the Business Operating Committee.</p>
<p>His extensive background in the areas of financial, operational and general management at a senior level has seen him work for such companies as 3M, Eftech Limited, Bowater Plc and Executive Computing Group.</p>
<p>In addition to having a strong focus on team development – Peter’s skills have led to his current team being recognised as one of the strongest regional Finance teams in the organisation – he is an expert in financial counseling and strategic advice, has substantial knowledge of operations, products, market dynamics and structure and has excellent ability in anticipating and identifying business risk.</p>
<p>Peter is a Member of National Institute of Accountants and Member of the Australian Centre for Management Accounting Development.</p>
<p>Graham Schultz, Member</p>
<p>Graham Schultz is OEM Partner Manager at Brocade where he is responsible for building the Storage Area Networking (SAN) business with Brocade’s OEM partners in Australia and Asia Pacific. Since joining Brocade in 2001 this business has grown dramatically and established Brocade as the leader in the SAN market. Graham has a wealth of experience with over 20 years in the IT industry and 7 years in the storage market. Before joining Brocade, Graham was the Regional Manager for Legato in Australia and New Zealand.</p>
<p>Ross Harper, Member</p>
<p>Ross Harper is currently Director of Strategic Alliances at Hitachi Data Systems. In this role Ross is responsible for ensuring HDS maintains close partnerships with leading and emerging companies in the Storage market. These partners are both international and locally based companies and include both OEM relationships and technology provider partners.</p>
<p>Ross has been at Hitachi Data Systems for over 13 years and has held various roles including Director of Services and Support, Channel Sales Director, Product Manager and Technical Support Specialist. Ross has spoken many times at customer and industry events on current storage topics and trends. Ross has over 22 years experience in the IT industry.</p>
<p>Garry Barker, Member</p>
<p>Garry has been an IT professional at IBM for over 25 years, with a focus on storage management for the last 18. He combines business and financial skills with expertise in technology to lead installations in successfully implementing major storage projects and deriving large cost savings, some of the more recent measured in millions of dollars saved. His track record of accomplishments in storage make him a highly regarded member of the world wide IBM storage community. He is also a recognised public speaker on storage topics.</p>
<p>Garry’s role this year is to bring to the ANZ marketplace IBM’s storage software strategy and products, including Open Systems disk virtualisation and a common file system for Open Systems.</p>
<p>Garry has performed three residency projects about storage technologies and has co-authored two IBM storage Redbooks, which are technical storage documents.</p>
<p>Chris Pearson, Member</p>
<p>Chris Pearson is currently the NSW Systems Engineering Manager for Sun Microsystems with a specialisation in storage solutions. Chris has 22 years experience in the IT industry, the past 15 working for vendors in a variety of pre-sales roles.</p>
<p>Prior to joining Sun, Chris spent 4 years at EMC Corporation as an SE Manager and open Software Practice Manager, during which time EMC embarked on a strategy to deliver Storage Management software that is compliant to the SNIA standards under development.</p>
<p>Narelle Wilson, Member</p>
<p>In her current position of General Manager-Marketing for VERITAS Software, Narelle manages numerous programs that promote the storage industry and its technologies. Responsible for the entire gamut of marketing activities and events, Narelle is heavily involved with branding, corporate communications and channel marketing strategies.</p>
<p>Narelle heads a team that is responsible proactive media relations, which for VERITAS includes participating in storage features, maintaining strong relationships with industry analysts, and putting forth appropriate spokespeople to comment on industry trends and company developments.</p>
<p>With a 20 year history in sales and marketing, comprising 10 years in the IT industry in vendor sales and distribution marketing, Narelle has a solid foundation in all areas of business management, as well as advertising and sales in the retail, oil and mining, and franchise sectors.</p>
