Astronaut joins SA Govt's IT panel

Astronaut Andy Thomas is among 15 international experts who have agreed to serve on an information technology advisory panel set up by the South Australian Government.

Chaired by Silicon Graphics chief executive Bob Bishop, the panel also includes Australia's chief defence scientist Ian Chessell and British medical researcher Dame Bridget Ogilvie.

Information Economy Minister Michael Armitage said the knowledge, experience and world perspective of panel members will be incredibly valuable.

"To have attracted people of this calibre is very exciting," Dr Armitage said.

"We will have access to some of the most informed opinion, information and advice available anywhere in the world."

The panel's first meeting will be held in Adelaide next month.

Its charter is to provide South Australia with advice, insights and a global perspective on developments within the information economy. -- AAP
