IBM sets sights on medium-sized customers

IBM launched a new portal Friday aimed at helping IT buyers from medium-sized companies research, select and purchase hardware, software and services from Big Blue and its business partners.

The portal, located at http://www.ibm.com/mediumbusiness, caters to companies with 100 to 1,000 employees, offering research, product information, financing options and online support.

IBM hopes to leverage the growing midsize business market, which is expected to account for US$150 billion in global IT spending this year, the company said, citing its own market research.

Customers spend half the time they invest on IT products and services doing research and contacting vendors, the company said. The new portal is intended to serve as a one-stop shop for medium-sized business customers to fulfill these needs, IBM said.

The portal is currently available in the U.S., Canada and Latin America and the company said it plans to launch medium-sized business centers for other global locations soon.
