WebPutty and Telelogic AB on Monday separately detailed change and configuration management offerings intended to make it easier to alter business systems.
WebPutty's Flexibility Platform 5.0 is designed for Fortune 1000 companies that need rapid turnaround in changes to applications, said Terry Hanold, the San Jose, Calif.-based company's executive vice president of marketing.
"The biggest problem that we're seeing with [these companies] right now is they cannot change their business systems quickly enough to keep up with their business needs. The problem for them is [that] an application or a system is now spread across many systems or machines," Hanold said.
Companies currently need to make changes to application areas such as the database, middle tier business logic, and the UI by hand. WebPutty's offering allows developers to make a change and have it cascaded to all impacted systems, Hanold said.
Components of WebPutty's platform include the Development Suite, for altering the business user interface, and the Interoperability Suite, which features modules for platforms such as COM, .Net, and Enterprise JavaBeans as well as for multiple database platforms. Also part of the platform is Application Flexibility Server, which handles change management and provides functions such as security. A typical WebPutty configuration costs about US$120,000, and the suite is available now.
Meanwhile, Telelogic has announced ActiveCM, an add-on for its Telelogic Synergy CM (content management) platform. ActiveCM provides automated configuration management for developers, hiding 90 percent of typical user/change management system interactions, according to Malmo, Sweden-based Telelogic.
Advanced configuration management capabilities are enabled without requiring users to change work habits.
ActiveCM provides a complementary user interface to Synergy. Activities such as changing, renaming, and creating new files are automated and require no manual operations, the company said. Specific installations are not required for Windows-based development environments such as Microsoft Visual Studio.Net or Borland JBuilder.
ActiveCM is shipping now for Windows platforms and requires an installation of Telelogic CM Synergy 6.2. Pricing ranges from $4,500 per server for as many as 15 users to $150 per client for a configuration for more than 100 users.
