The WA Department of Training has completed a six-month project to upgrade its IT systems.
About 550 employees at the department's head office in Perth made the transition from a Netware and GroupWise IT infrastructure to Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000.
Hewlett-Packard Services worked closely with the Department throughout the project, which also included streamlining other software and systems at both server and workstation levels.
The department's IT manager, John Kay, said the upgrade established a strong foundation for knowledge management and collaboration, and was reducing overall costs.
Kay said the previous infrastructure consisted of disparate desktop and server environments, which hampered the use of various applications "fundamental to moving our business forward and it also meant staff productivity was restricted".
"Staff productivity is also enhanced through features such as remote deployment of applications as well as remote control and roaming profiles, which allows staff to log on at any of the department's workstations," he said.
Details of the project's costs were unavailable.
