IBM abandons retail market

Just six weeks after ties were severed between retail giant Harvey Norman and IBM's PC division, the vendor has announced it will no longer sell any PCs in the retail sector.

A spokesperson for IBM Australia's PC division said retail is not part of IBM's go-forward strategy, which involves focusing on growing its direct business through Web sales and building corporate reseller channels.

IBM currently sells through Dick Smith Electronics superstores as well as David Jones and 12 other retail partners.
