Curtin University of Technology extends end-to-end network visibility with Concord’s eHealth Suite

Sydney, Australia – September 10, 2003 - Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia’s largest university with 31,000 students in six metropolitan, regional and offshore campuses, has significantly increased its use of Concord Communications’ eHealth Suite for performance analysis and real-time reporting.

As a leading adaptor of technology, Curtin is one of the first organisations in the world to implement a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network. This world-class IT infrastructure supports remote sensing groups working with high volume images for minerals exploration and geophysics. In an effort to maximize their investment and achieve a high level of performance and availability, The University selected Concord’s eHealth Suite.

The University chose Concord Communications’ eHealth Suite in 2002, and has increased its investment in the software by more than 50%. Concord provides detailed analysis of usage patterns, potential service disruptions and sources of delay across the Curtin network, enabling easy understanding of the performance of more than 2,000 network elements.

According to Andrew MacDonald, Curtin University Technology Network Manager, “Concord allows the University to view and easily understand performance across the network. It has proven a robust and reliable solution, with a strong return on investment. Comparatively, solving network faults before implementing the eHealth Suite was equivalent to flying blind.”

“Concord has helped to reduce management overhead. It has proved compatible with our infrastructure, and fast to implement at low cost. We can see a huge amount of information through Concord, enabling us to increase network productivity and avoid outages,” said Mr. MacDonald.

“The eHealth Suite’s real-time reports provide detailed information that is clear and easy to understand. This reporting is critical to the proactive management of IT infrastructure,” he said.

Curtin’s decision to extend the use of Concord’s eHealth Suite was assisted by Concord’s long-standing partnership with Cisco. This partnership made the eHealth Suite a logical choice, ensuring compatibility with Cisco features such as the Cisco Service Assurance Agent (SAA).

“We felt very comfortable with Concord as a Cisco partner, as we knew it would work well with our infrastructure,” said Mr. MacDonald.

The University also uses Concord’s AdvantEDGE and SystemEDGE products, which deliver real time problem detection and self-healing corrective action for managing Microsoft Exchange.

Andrew MacDonald said, “Concord has helped develop a very reliable environment, and we are now better able to contextualise the resource implications of applications. Concord’s eHealth Suite enabled us to raise our standards, and greatly contributed to our ability to maintain the University’s high level of availability commitment,”.

Peter Martin, Concord’s regional director in Australia, summarized the company’s expansion within Curtain as “another example of a Concord customer who has proven the value of our eHealth Suite and is leveraging it to generate even greater returns.”
