Product collaboration company Parametric Technology Corporation has partnered with Groove Networks and Tibco Software to enhance its offering with real-time collaboration and back-end integration capabilities, officials announced Wednesday.
The announcements are part of a new broad initiative by Needham, Massachusetts-based PTC called Product First. Under this new plan, PTC will be rolling out an architecture in coming months designed to encompass everything from product planning to support and service for manufacturers By embedding Groove networks within its products, PTC will provide secure, cross-company person-to-person interaction within its existing collaborative applications, according to company officials. The real-time capabilities of Groove, in Beverly, Massachusetts, allow product engineers to participate in virtual brainstorming, collaborative authoring and product design reviews with customers, partners and suppliers.
PTC has more than 33,000 product-design customers worldwide, and time to market is a critical success factor for each of them, said Ray Ozzie, CEO of Groove Networks in a statement.
"As we've worked together, we've learned that the design process for PTC's customers is becoming increasingly decentralized, with a greater degree of outsourcing to component suppliers. By incorporating the secure, decentralized collaboration capabilities of Groove within its solutions, PTC is reducing that cost of coordination and further helping its customers maintain competitive advantage through superior product design," Ozzie said.
Having the ability to collaborate and communicate with customers and suppliers in real time will become an indispensable tool in developing products for manufacturing, said Aaron Spicer, mold design engineer, Tech Tool and Molded Plastics, Meadville, Pennsylvania. It will allow the company to meet the demands of its customers by getting involved in the design process earlier, he added.
In its strategic alliance with Tibco, PTC will use Tibco's integration platform to link its product development solutions with enterprise solutions. The joint solution optimizes and automates business processes and streamlines operational efficiencies by facilitating two-way communication between PTC's Windchill technology and other business systems, according to PTC officials.
