Chemical giant set to begin identity management rollout

BMC Australia has won a deal with explosives, chemicals and paint making giant Orica to provide automated employee identity management to accelerate the productivity of new employees.

Orica is set to roll out BMC's Identity Management (IdM) Suite to help manage its expanding global workforce.

The company's IT security and standards manager, David Vranes, said Orica's rapid global expansion necessitated the introduction of automated identity lifecycle management to streamline employee on-boarding, de-provisioning, and information security management.

"Securing our information and providing employees with the right level of access to the right information at the right time is critical to our business," Vranes said.

"We have added hundreds of new employees in the last year alone, and being able to automatically onboard and track employee systems access through a centralised solution will improve security and capture earlier productivity from new employees."

Vranes said he also expects to reduce costs by minimizing the burden associated with manual identity management.

"We have been a long-time customer of BMC, working with them on a Business Service Management (BSM) approach to ensure our IT systems are aligned with the needs of our business. IdM was a logical next step on our BSM journey, increasing the security of our information and preparing our systems for future growth and expansion," he explained.

BMC's IdM Suite includes provisioning, compliance and password management modules, enabling Orica to manage identities and access privileges for employees around the globe.

The system has been pre-configured to Orica's core systems, including Lotus Notes, and Active Directory, with production rollout scheduled for early 2008 with analysis and design phases currently underway.

BMC Australia managing director, Mike Davies, said companies continue to invest significantly in talent recruitment, but idle employees and complex onboarding processes can add thousands more in lost productivity for both the new hire, IT and therefore the business as a whole.

With the BMC solution, Davies said Orica's IT department can get new employees situated for productivity faster, provide password self service and report on their organizational compliance for systems access across the enterprise, with a few mouse clicks.

For the four fiscal quarters ended September 30, 2007, BMC revenue was approximately $1.64 billion.
