Benq to put Motorola inside 2.5G handsets

Taiwanese hardware maker Benq Corp., formerly known as Acer Communication and Multimedia Inc., has chosen Motorola's i.250 mobile phone platform for its 2.5G (enhanced second-generation) GSM (global system for mobile communication)/GPRS (general packet radio service) handsets, the two companies announced Wednesday.

The i.250 platform includes a Motorola chipset and the GPRS software protocol as well as support for Bluetooth wireless networking technology. Benq did not say when phones based on the platform would be available.
