Business Intelligence Company Hyperion Solutions Corp. announced Wednesday a strategic OEM and reseller agreement to embed Web-based query, reporting, and information delivery solutions from Crystal Decisions Inc. for relational and multidimensional data into Hyperion's platform.
The joint development will enable companies to seamlessly access a complete range of information for reporting, analysis, modeling, and planning, according to company officials from Mountain View, Calif.-based Hyperion.
The addition of the Crystal Decisions solutions to Hyperion's OLAP (online analytical processing) technology is an important step in the evolution of Hyperion's analytic platform to a more comprehensive enterprisewide business intelligence solution, said John Kopcke, chief technology officer at Hyperion. The combination will give customers easy access to both relational and multidimensional data, he added.
"Their preference is to have a single query and reporting solution that will allow them to do the types of business analysis they need to do with one tool," Kopcke said. "They really want to have the option to get the entire solution from one vendor as opposed to being forced to piece together the solution themselves."
Research from Gartner Group Inc. shows that OLAP has matured to become a safe business intelligence technology investment, said Frank Buytendijk, a Gartner analyst. However, a full business intelligence platform also includes managed querying and reporting and full Web deployment, he added.
The agreement enables Hyperion to resell Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise products through its direct sales force and worldwide distribution channel. Joint development work will begin immediately to optimize the combined solution and to develop new functionality and seamless integration with Hyperion's analytic platform, officials said.
