Finance department enters new $5m IT contract

Increasing demand for outsourced services sees department resign its contract with Commander

The federal Department of Finance and Administration has renewed its IT services contract for a further two years with outsourcer Commander Communications.

The contract provides desktop, midrange, and storage support services across the department.

With an option for a 12-month extension, the new contract is worth $5 million per year, up from the previous three-year contract of $3.5 million per year, according to Commander.

According to Commander, the increase reflects the department's growing IT support requirements, and additional projects Commander will undertake.

Commander's group general manager for the enterprise, Steve Evans, said the Department of Finance is "committed to building and maintaining a best-practice IT infrastructure to drive and support optimal business performance across all its divisions".

"Commander looks forward to continuing to work in partnership with the department to support their high-level business requirements with cost-effective, secure IT systems," Evans said.

The new contract extends the initial IT services contract the department signed with Volante in November 2004.
