Eden Technology wins first South African sale of GEMS evidence management system

 • 11 October, 2007 12:07

Sydney, October 10, 2007––Eden Technology announced today that the Gauteng Share Service Centre (GSSC) in Johannesburg, South Africa has licensed its general evidence management system (GEMS). The sale, the first of GEMS in the South African market, was made through Eden’s South African distributor, Motswedi.

GSSC will use GEMS in its Forensic Audit Unit to investigate irregularities and potential fraudulent activity within the Gauteng government.

The Forensic Audit Unit plans to conduct 93 forensic reviews during the current financial year, which ends on March 31, 2008. The Unit’s fraud prevention component aims to target at least 7,000 Gauteng Provincial Government employees for awareness by conducting approximately 350 education sessions in relation to fraud prevention.

“The introduction of the General Evidence Management System will enable us to crack targeted infiltration of our control environment by organised syndicates,” said Gauteng Member of the Executive Council for Finance and Economic Affairs, Paul Mashatile.

GSSC has taken a 30-user licence along with scanning and OCR, with the potential to increase to 300 users. Eden’s implementation team travelled to South Africa in June to commence installation and facilitate the knowledge transfer to Motswedi.

Local sales wins
This sale follows two recent local sales wins for GEMS, to the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Drugs Agency (ASADA) and the Federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

ASADA is using GEMS in investigations of suspected anti-doping rule violations to manage the disparate forms of digital evidence involved in their investigations in a proven secure environment.

DEWR is using GEMS as its corporate evidence management and brief delivery tool in cases of fraud.

“GEMS is an extraordinarily powerful system that enables any form of evidence acquired or generated to be managed and quickly culled – leaving only that relevant to the case,” says Eden Technology CEO, Katrina Doring. “The savings in time and money to any organisation conducting investigations are significant.

“We are delighted to welcome these three organisations to our customer base and look forward to working with them to achieve their respective goals.”
