Sweden's Telia International Monday announced that Lucent Technologies Inc. will supply long-haul dense wave division multiplexing gear to complete Telia's North American network.
The agreement to deploy Lucent's WaveStar OLS 400G DWDM systems to interconnect metropolitan areas across Telia's Viking backbone is part of the 3-year, US$200 million deal signed by Lucent and Telia in May 2000. Last week, Telia announced that LightScape will supply the optical cross-connects and metro DWDM systems in 15 cities on the Viking network as part of a pact valued at $20 million initially.
Lucent's WaveStar OLS 400G systems will link 27 cities across the Viking network. Viking will provide IP data, capacity and voice services on a wholesale basis to other carriers.
Lucent WaveStar BandWidth Managers are also deployed throughout the global network for grooming and multiplexing low-speed electrical and optical signals.
Separately, Telia announced it recently completed the installation of the TAT-14 Atlantic cable, a transatlantic cable that connects the European and North American segments of its global network.
