SINGAPORE (04/12/2000) - Business-to-business (B2B) electronic commerce specialist Ariba Inc. has established regional Asian headquarters in Singapore, the company announced in a statement yesterday.
In addition, Ariba and Singapore-based Mindtrac Inc. have signed an agreement to deliver an online marketplace for the US$180 billion [B] vehicle tire industry, powered by the Ariba B2B Commerce Platform, the two companies said.
Mindtrac is Ariba's first major customer in the region, the companies said.
The Ariba B2B applications include a core set of master components covering Internet-based procurement, marketplace, dynamic trade and collaborative commerce. The Ariba applications platform also includes a set of optional components covering catalog and content, reporting and analysis, supplier enablement and messaging.
Ariba's presence in Singapore will help local and regional businesses to leverage B2B e-commerce initiatives and enable them to participate in the new global Net economy, according to Mukesh Aghi, [CQ] Ariba Asia-Pacific's managing director.
It also provides a boost for Singapore's efforts to position itself as a hub for e-commerce in Southeast Asia, according to Liew Heng San [CQ] managing director of the country's Economic Development Board (EDB).
These B2B exchanges form an intrinsic part of Singapore's digital economy for the manufacturing sector, and many companies here are adopting Internet strategies through such exchanges, Liew said in an EDB statement accompanying the launch.
