SINGAPORE (01/25/2000) - Cable & Wireless HKT Ltd. (C&W) and local multimedia company Creative Technology Ltd. have launched an Internet service provider (ISP) joint venture here aimed at multinational corporations as well as small and medium enterprises, C&W said in a statement issued yesterday.
The joint venture, named Cable & Wireless Network Services Singapore Pte. Ltd. is 75 percent owned by C&W and the partners plan to invest HK$100 million (US$12.9 million) in building up services over the next three years. The launch brings the number of ISPs in Singapore to six.
In the statement, C&W said it will offer access to the Internet by leased circuits and dial-up, IP-VPN (Internet protocol - virtual private network) services for company intranets and extranets, and value-added services such as web hosting security services and facilities management.
A major component of the business will be to provide Internet application turnkey solutions to both local and regional businesses, according to David Phua, chief executive officer of the joint venture.
The establishment of the Singapore ISP by C&W follows the setting up of an ISP in Korea last October while similar projects are planned for India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, the company said.
