ACS makes Australia Day honours list

John Ridge gets OA

Australian Computer Society (ACS) foundation executive director John Ridge made the Australian Day honours list.

John Ridge was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in the latest honours list on January 26, 2007.

As a former ACS president, Ridge received the honour for his service to the ICT industry, especially the development of professional organisations and the creation of educational opportunities.

Ridge was the driving force behind the ACS Foundation during his presidency in 2001, a body that has raised over $9 million in cash and in-kind sponsorship for scholarships and research.

This has lead to more than 600 scholarships.

ACS president, Philip Argy said Ridge is committed to the ICT industry.

"One of his most visible and significant contributions to the industry was the establishment and ongoing development of the ACS Foundation. John was instrumental in devising and establishing the foundation, which offers valuable programmes and effectively supports students and graduates as they enter the workforce," Argy said.

Ridge said receiving the award was a humbling experience.

"I have been fortunate to work with the ACS in a voluntary capacity for over three decades - a professional society that aims to raise the standing of ICT professionals, represent their views to government, industry and the community and provide opportunities for professional education, networking and certification," he said.
