Indicating that the companies' products go hand-in-hand, PDA (personal digital assistant) software distributor Handango said Wednesday that it signed an exclusive deal with Handspring to provide software for the company's Treo and Visor models.
Both the Visor and Treo products run on the Palm OS. Although Handspring's Visor product line has been on the market for some time, the Treo, which is a PDA and mobile phone with wireless applications, just recently launched with much to-do.
In addition to the software agreement, the companies have also launched two online Handango-powered software stores, one for individual users and one for businesses. The software stores for individual customers can be reached by clicking the "third-party software" link on Handspring's site. Enterprise customers can shop for industry-specific software by clicking the software tab on Handspring.com's enterprise page.
The two companies also plan to launch online stores in German, French and Spanish by the end of the year, Handango said. The stores will provide software in local languages, along with native descriptions of English-language software.
