Universal Music Signs Exclusive gotalk Download Deal

<p>Fast growing Queensland based telco gotalk limited has scored a major coup in the multi million dollar youth mobile phone market, by signing an exclusive deal to download mobile content from the world’s largest music company, Universal Music.</p>
<p>In a first for the Australian online music market this agreement allows gotalk to distribute pre-paid cards in conjunction with Universal, beginning this month. The Universal/gotalk deal gives mobile users on any Australian network access to the world’s largest music library from the latest artists such as U2, Eminem, The Black Eyed Peas, Wolfmother, Gwen Stefani, The Pussycat Dolls and Akon to the vast Universal Music back catalogue from the likes of ABBA, KISS and the original U2 classics.</p>
<p>The Universal Music Content Card is a prepaid card which allows the user to purchase content for their mobile phone including truetone and polyphonic ringtones, videotones, wallpapers, videos and interviews.</p>
<p>Customers can easily search from thousands of artists and choose content from a customer friendly website http://umusic.gotalk.com or via their handset. The card allows customers to pre-pay for their content ensuring they don’t get any nasty surprises when their bill arrives. There are no subscriptions, no gimmicks, just the best mobile content available all at great prices.</p>
<p>The Universal Music Content Card will launch throughout December via electronic vouchers available online.
A collectable, limited edition series of physical cards will also be available in $10, $20 and $30 denominations, through 35,000 gotalk retail outlets including Coles, Australia Post, Kmart, Caltex, Harvey Norman, BP, Mobil, Dick Smith, Woolworths and many more.</p>
<p>“This announcement is perfectly timed for the Christmas and January holiday period,” gotalk CEO Steve Picton said today. “The card makes the ideal gift for those hard to buy for. The recipient can then personalise their mobile with content from the artist of their choice, choosing from the extensive range of Universal’s catalogue,” he said.</p>

<p>Images supplied on the limited edition card series will be exclusive, and a selected number will be signed by the artist. While all mobile phone users on all Australian networks will be able to purchase the content supplied by this service, gotalk customers will receive 40% discount on all content with charges as low as $2.39 per ringtone. Competitions will run throughout the year, where prizes such as signed framed posters, CD sets and concert tickets will be given away.</p>
<p>To access the new download service, users simply purchase prepaid vouchers /cards to download content from umusic.gotalk.com, or direct from a WAP enabled handset (wap.gotalk.com)</p>
<p>Announcing the deal a delighted Steve Picton said the exclusive arrangement with Universal Music, the dominant number one in global music sales, was a huge coup for the specialist telco.</p>
<p>While mobile users other than gotalk customers would be able to access Universal Music content, the deal will be of most benefit to gotalk customers who receive a 40% discount on all the content – “a powerful loyalty incentive” Picton added.</p>
<p>“There will be no contracts, no subscription fees, no management fees, no hidden costs – i.e. no scams,” Picton emphasized.</p>
<p>“We have ensured that there will be no way any users will get caught by any 1900 multiple charges.”</p>
<p>To be eligible for the gotalk rate, you must be a gotalk prepaid or postpaid customer with a valid gotalk mobile phone number and account password. Once activated, you have 3 months to use your credit. gotalk mobile customers may have their content charged to their prepaid or postpaid account.</p>
<p>gotalk customers will charge downloads to their mobile account, whilst non gotalk customers can utilise the $10, $20 and $30 electronic Prepaid Vouchers via Epay, Dialtime and Touch terminals.</p>
<p>“The first release this week will feature the immensely popular international artists, Jay Z, Pussy Cat Dolls, Rihanna and Akon,” Picton said.</p>
<p>“Only 5,000 of each card will be printed, so they are sure to become highly prized collectors items,” he said.</p>

<p>“A major reason gotalk and Universal Music were able to reach an agreement on this important deal was our ability to offer a huge physical distribution network – a network even bigger than Telstra or Optus – via our phone card subsidiary CardCall,” Mr. Picton said.</p>
