Troux Technologies is making it easier for network managers to analyze and report on their network infrastructures and contribute to enterprise architecture planning with the latest release of its software.
Metis 6, which ships Monday, features integration with software from Cognos, a business intelligence software vendor. The integration lets users take information from the Metis 6 metadata repository and analyze it using Cognos software.
"What's new about Version 6 is the ease of use for mere mortals to be able to create data marks of network information and understand how that information is related to other parts of the business and create analysis and reports and business intelligence relative to the interdependencies of the network to the rest of the enterprise,'' says James Rogers, chief marketing officer at Troux.
Previously, it required more technical skill to construct queries from the Metis 6 metadata repository.
"If you can use an Excel spreadsheet, you'll have the ability in Cognos to query this enterprise architecture information and report on it,'' Rogers says.
Metis 6 is used by many corporate and government clients including General Motors, Bank of America, the Department of Defense and the Department of Health and Human Services. One of the most common uses of Metis is to analyze the as-is and to-be state of networks, Troux officials say.
Metis 6 can "provide information that's important to the planning process such as the capacity of the network, the current state of the network and whether it can support strategic initiatives or what the future state of the network needs to be to support strategic initiatives,'' Rogers says.
Troux software costs about US$200,000.
