A hosted IT services offering for the oil and gas industries has been launched in Western Australia.
The first customer to sign up for the offering is the West Australian Department of Industry and Resources with a six-month deal.
The department did not disclose the value of the deal, but confirmed it was in the "thousands of dollars" range.
ISA Technologies is hosting the service, which is being provided by oil and gas IT specialist Schlumberger.
Under the deal, ISA will host Schlumberger's Web-based offering LiveQuest at its Perth-based High Performance and Visualization Centre.
It gives customers access to exploration and production (E&P) applications including Geoframe and Eclipse.
WA Department of Industry and Resources petroleum and royalties division general manager Mark Gabrielson said the hosted service means the department doesn't have to rely on its own internal resources.
"We are using the ISA [High Performance and Visualization] centre with Schlumberger as a pilot to use [ISA's] supercomputer for simulation work and to see if this is a cheaper way of using the software," Gabrielson said.
ISA managing director Sil La Puma said the offering is now available to Asia Pacific clients and was launched in the wake of a resources boom in WA.
"We are thrilled to be working with Schlumberger to provide a service for the Asia-Pacific region and equally as thrilled to have singed up our first client," La Puma said.
"Given the current resources boom in WA, we are very excited by the opportunities this collaboration will bring to the region."
