Former HP director to lead BEA Australia

Focus on growing market share

The former director of Hewlett Packard's South Pacific software division, Dr Ali Al-Tarafi, has been appointed managing director of BEA Australia and New Zealand.

Announcing the appointment today, BEA Systems Asia Pacific VP and general manager, Steve Au Yeung, said Al-Tarafi has more than 27 years experience in the IT industry.

"Ali brings with him a wealth of experience in leadership roles and a deep understanding of the software market," he said.

"Ali will be instrumental in strengthening BEA's corporate vision in the public sector, financial services and telco arena, in addition to a strong focus on new growth areas."

Al-Tarafi will be responsible for BEA's strategic direction in A/NZ with a strong focus on developing new business and growing market share in the region.

He left HP at a time when the company is undergoing significant change.

HP is ramping up its software business following its Mercury acquisition, and also increasing its focus on services.
