As part of an overall strategy to enhance information management capabilities, Townsville Port Authority in Queensland has implemented an enterprise content management (ECM) solution from Objective Corporation (ASX: OCL).

Townsville Port Authority manages the Port of Townsville, with approximately ten million tonnes of cargo passing over its wharves. Townsville Port Authority is responsible for facilitating trade through the Port by effectively and efficiently managing and operating Port facilities and services, and ensuring appropriate levels of safety, security and availability.

Objective provides broad enterprise content management capability comprising: electronic document management, records management, workflow and drawings management.

Townsville Port Authority is using Objective to provide a corporate information repository to support effective information management and manage a range of physical and electronic information such as engineering drawings, plans and digital pictures used for construction and maintenance projects including new berths and buildings.

In addition to improving information management, the Authority required a solution to support compliance with the Queensland Public Records Act 2002 and Queensland government Information Standards 31, 40, 41 & 42.

The enterprise-wide implementation supports a broad spectrum of disciplines including engineering design and supervision, capital expansion and maintenance, corporate governance, planning and environment, finance, Port services, business development and marketing.

“We selected Objective because it was a single solution with a proven track-record in operating effectively in comparable environments,” said Mr Barry Holden, Chief Executive Officer, Townsville Port Authority.
Objective plays an important role in supporting corporate governance at the Authority, with the management of rental and lease information for port land and buildings, along with numerous engineering contracts.
It is imperative that the Authority is able to retain corporate knowledge for future use. Objective enables draftsmen to manage drawings from a centralised repository that will contain business critical knowledge for use in the future.

Objective Workflow will assist in monitoring and streamlining business processes, enabling the Authority to provide essential business knowledge to people whilst providing a range of operational efficiencies throughout the Authority.

“We expect Objective will enhance our ability to manage business processes and, most importantly, retain corporate knowledge. We also expect it will provide us with a tool for becoming more responsive to establishing effectual changes and improvements to our organisation.

"We are very confident that Objective will facilitate the efficient management and necessary security of the Authority's knowledge assets now and into the future," said Mr. Holden.
