Software as a service marketplace launched

Application hosting company WebCentral says it has established Australia's first online sales hub for software as a service (SaaS) applications.

Dubbed the WebCentral Application Marketplace ( the portal can be accessed by organizations seeking 'on demand' business applications ranging from CRM to accounting and tax services.

Founding the marketplace is a key part of WebCentral's SaaS strategy which began with the launch of its branded SaaS-style products for SMEs within its Business Builder Range, and has now been extended to drive demand for the company's managed hosting services from SaaS vendors.

A company spokesman said that since its establishment in April, the Application Marketplace has attracted more than 25 local application providers as members and some 9000 unique site visitors for pay-per-use business applications including accounting and tax, CRM, collaboration, procurement and Web site management.

WebCentral CEO Andrew Spicer said that as part of the launch, the company is creating an online forum where local application developers can promote their products.

One of the most popular applications on the Application Marketplace to date, he said, has been We Call You Now, a 'click to call' online sales tool that allows Web site visitors to receive an instant phone call.

WebCentral is continuing to actively seek further SaaS providers as members for the Marketplace.

To date, the most popular categories of SaaS applications on the marketplace are Web site management (16 percent), CRM (13 percent), accounting and tax (12 percent) and business process tools (11 percent). The most frequently visited applications by industry have been accounting (7 percent), sales and marketing (6 percent) and IT&T (6 percent).
