HTC Launch GPS-Ready Phone With CoPilot® Live™ Navigation On 3

 • 12 November, 2007 11:56

The HTC P3600i smartphone with CoPilot Live offers 3’s customers premium GPS navigation on a phone.

9 November 2007, Sydney Australia. HTC Corp. (TAIEX: 2498; "HTC"), the world's leading provider of Microsoft® Windows Mobile®-based smart devices, is offering the GPS-enabled HTC P3600i smartphone with ALK Technologies’ award-winning CoPilot Live 7 navigation system on 3, Australia’s first 3G network.

The HTC P3600i Windows Mobile 6 based smartphone with CoPilot Live 7 combines powerful personal organiser features such as e-mail, Internet and mobile Microsoft Office applications with voice-guided GPS navigation. CoPilot Live 7 offers the same performance and ease of use as a dedicated or in-dash system, complete with 2D and 3D street maps, step-by-step address entry, finger-touch buttons and predictive address matching. Voice directions are provided at every turn.

On the road, driver safety is the priority. By default, CoPilot Live only displays a map close to a turn or junction, progressively zooming-in before returning to a non-distracting safety screen. CoPilot Live 7 incorporates the latest Australian street maps from NAVTEQ, accurate down to house number, and finding the nearest petrol station or car park is made easy with thousands of preloaded points of interest (POIs). Many POIs include telephone numbers which can be dialled directly from within CoPilot.

Beyond navigation, CoPilot Live utilises 3’s high speed mobile broadband network to provide a unique online location tracking service. Customers can let friends, family or colleagues view their location in real-time on an Internet map.

The HTC P3600i boasts high functionality, powerful applications and a glossy attractive exterior all in one portable package that fits snugly in the palm of your hand. It comes with a full suite of the latest mobile technology including WiFi802.11g, Quadband GSM, Triband WCDMA and HSDPA.

It also boasts a 360-degree scroll wheel that makes navigation a breeze and its 2.0 megapixel dual camera and 2.8 inch QVGA display screen ensures good quality pictures and video calls every time. In addition, the HTC P3600i has a built in GPS antenna so there is no need for a wired or bluetooth external antenna allowing you to easily carry your portable navigation system in your hand.

The HTC P3600i uses the Windows Mobile 6.0 platform and is powered by the Samsung 500 MHz processor. It has a built-in ROM of 256MB and 64MB RAM memory with persistent storage. It also has Microsoft Office programs like Outlook Mobile, Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, IE Mobile and Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.

“The P3600i is a perfect example of HTC’s commitment to deliver smart mobility to consumers. It is a powerful Windows Mobile 6 based smartphone that combines powerful personal organiser features such as email and internet with voice guided GPS navigation in a stylish handset,' said John Featherstone, Managing Director, HTC Australia.

“The P3600i will ensure that users not only arrive at their chosen destination on time using Co-Pilot Live’s 3D street maps with finger touch buttons but, most importantly, safely. Using Co-Pilot Live, the P3600i will only display a map close to a junction gradually zooming-in before returning to a safety screen,” he added.

Michael Kornhauser, Vice President of ALK Technologies said “We are delighted to be providing premium mobile navigation to 3’s customers in partnership with HTC. The combination of HTC’s GPS enabled smartphones and our latest CoPilot Live 7 software provides drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike with an amazing navigation experience on their phones.”
