Internap Network Services announced its Application Assessment Service at Interop in Las Vegas Tuesday.
The service, which allows customers to better track the impact of applications over their network, is supported by Internap Professional Services group.
Internap's Application Assessment Service lets customers track end-to-end user response time, Internet performance and gauge the impact of new applications deployed on the network.
Internap assesses a customer's network by deploying one of its Flow Control route optimization devices at a customer's site along with a packet sniffer at the front end, says David Abrahamson, executive vice president of global sales at Internap.
The service provider uses the data gathered over about seven days and presents that to the customer. Metrics that are typically included with such an assessment include protocol overhead, effect of latency, out of sequence packets and a variety of TCP measurements.
These metrics are used to determine network and application performance issues. Internap also recommends tools and changes that could help eliminate problems.
Abrahamson says the Professional Services group is a third-party impartial unit, but it does sometimes recommend customers use Internap Flow Control products to fix their performance issues. He also points out that the group also recommends other products and services from companies such as Akamai and others.
The service provider's Application Assessment Service is available in a variety of packages. While the price for each engagement varies, Abrahamson says customers can expect to pay US$20,000 to US$35,000 per engagement.
